Mississippi Eagles

Freedom!

1/31/10 I spent all day Sunday with friends watching these magnificent birds fish along the Mississippi.... Cheers erupted from the crowd of onlookers as this eagle powered up with his prize in tow. (This particular Photo came from Lock & Dam 14 near Le Claire Iowa.)

Who's Chasing Who? As skilled as these eagles are they often miss... more than once we saw fish flung up in the air as the hunter cruised off empty handed. Within seconds another Eagle dove in and claimed the stunned fish.

Grace & Power It happens so fast, they circle around once or twice then cruse in for the strike. Their sense of balance and timing is truly amazing to watch.
